Review: New Hol Food Chocolate Formula/ Rebrand

Here is a comprehensive review of the updated Hol Food Chocolate formula.

….And here is my new shipment!

Okay, so I have been bugging the Hol Food customer service a lot this week. After placing my first order I got it almost instantly, so obviously I quickly ordered again. Likely due to this formula changeover, this time it took 5 business days to ship HALF of my order, only the new chocolate sans my vanilla. The vanilla, according to their customer service, is still filling and won’t be ready to ship until early next week… But like then why are they selling it now? …bruh.

So now a bit more than a week later, here we stand, new Hol Food in hand. Lets see how it compares to the old stuff.

Photo: The old, much more rustic packaging. The new tubs are much more modern and are now able to ship without getting chocolate dust all over the box.

So I moved my cats, opened the new white tub and made my Hol Food. The paper seal was unsealed on the top but it took me a second to fight off the lid so I am not certain that damage wasn’t me, also if not I’m sure I’ll live. The scoop may be slightly smaller than previous formula. This new formula smells a lot like a Soylent product, but I can’t put my finger on what it is.

I make mine in a blender, since the last formula was so lumpy. This one is NOT LUMPY AT ALL. The flavour is very similar to the older Hol Food with its unsweetened cocoa taste, but the texture is NEXT LEVEL. So smooth. The taste is maybe a bit milder, actually, but not much. I do think there’s a reason they are calling this the “Smoothest Lent Ever” in their Reddit Ad. Very creamy, more ‘gooey’ than the first formula and not chalky at all. Last batch was chalky as hell. I don’t even think I need to blend this new formula, and I can probably just shake it in a mason jar. This method did not work for me with the old formula because of the sand like grit at the bottom- glad this is gone now. This new stuff is like freaky smooth.

This formula is MUCH more filling than the last formula. Previously I could chug a whole meal and move on, this one slows me down to sipping about half way. This is likely due to the increased protein content in the new formula, going from 30g-35g of protein per serving.

Nutritionally this is WAY different than the last Hol Food. Each meal boasting only 400 Calories in stead of the previous 500 calories. And all of the vitamins and minerals are in varying amounts, unlike the old formula which was 25% down the board. I wonder what this means for how many meals I am supposed to eat? If I eat 4 that 1600 calories but way over on Vitamin A, magnese, copper, and vitamin E, but slightly under on everything else.

I’m probably just going to do four a day though, I could use a little calorie reduction lately.

Heres a comparison:

Product            Taste       Texture        Shipping            Price

New Form.        8.5/10        10/10               5/10                     🙂

Old Form.           8/10          7/10     9/10 (on that order)      🙂

Soylent Cocoa   7/10          9/10                10/10                     😦

This page will be updated as I continue to consume this product all week.

All in all, this formula is a serious step up from the last one. So much so that I will continue to put my shipping differences aside and keep ordering because this product is really delicious. I am pumped up to try the vanilla when it finally arrives! If you are not impatient with shipping I highly, highly recommend this product.

Thanks for reading,

OOCH
