Carnival Style Cinnamon Donuts: Recipe

These little donut bites are just like the ones you can get here at The Ex in Toronto and other fall fairs. So delicious when you serve them piping hot, still a little greasy with cinnamon sugar getting stuck to your fingers. I made these the other night after getting the munchies after downing a whole bottle of wine. It. Was. The. Best.

Enjoy.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 Cups Flour
  • 1/2 Cup White Sugar
  • 1 Teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 1 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 1 Teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 Cup Milk
  • 1 Egg
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Nutmeg (Optional)
  • 1 Cup of Cinnamon Sugar
  • Oil for frying

Method

  1. Preheat oil to 365f or until it looks hot, don’t worry yourself too much about it.
  2. Mix flour, sugar, salt, and nutmeg in a bowl. Beat in the milk, egg, and vanilla.
  3. Spoon batter in 1 Tablespoon scoops into the hot oil and fry 2-3 minutes per side, depending on how golden you like your bites.
  4. Immediately roll the donuts in the cinnamon sugar and serve warm.

Happy Frying,

Strain Report: Sugar Shack

Sugar Shack is an Indica dominant hybrid boasting a strangely sedating creativity and crazy munchies. As a sufferer of anxiety and depression hardcore, this strain provides times of quiet clarity when they are most needed.

Genetics

  • Northern Lights #1
  • Hawaiian

Smell 7/10

This strain has a sweet, forest smell. Pine and Spruce tree aromas, and an almost honey like sweetness in the aroma.

Density 9/10

As with all cannabis, it depends on the grower what your buds are going to look like. In general though this is a nice dense strain. I have personally purchased a single bud weighing in at 40 grams, all tightly packed and beautiful.

Smoke 7/10

Sweet, but a very rich, lung-cramping smoke. Be careful with your portion sizes when packing bowls. Even as a seasoned user I have pushed myself to wheezing with this strain.

Effect 8/10

This strain is strong as heck, sleepy as anything, and super creative. The rise is quick so be prepared, but once you are up it is very sooth and mellow. I have never noticed dry mouth or eyes from this strain. An excellent choice for people who suffer from anxiety and depression and need nighttime relief. Very drowsy, it’ll kick your ass.

There is a very weird duality with this strain because it makes me feel like creating music but also really knocks me out so I end up in this strange place where I create amazing sounds that make no sense.

Expect to have a massive creative rampage ending in a long nap.

As An Edible 8/10

As an edible this strain is even more potent than when smoked. Do not eat this strain unless you are an experienced user or are very careful with your dosing.

Overall 40/50

I highly recommend you seek out and purchase this strain. A beautiful addition to your pantry, this strain gives you creative clarity while preparing you for the nap of a lifetime.

Strain Report: Pineapple Express

Photo: Tumblr

Pineapple Express has got to be my favourite cannabis strain of all time. This sativa dominant hybrid is a freaking show stopper. Not because of the movie (I actually haven’t even seen it), but because of its overall usefulness. As a musician, I have always loved super exciting, creative strains like this that you can enjoy anytime of day.

Genetics

  • Trainwreck
  • Hawaiian

Smell 9/10

Amazingly, this strain has a sweet, fruity smell. Hints of cotton candy and pine tree, and that beautifully strong pineapple aroma.

Density 7/10

As with all cannabis, it depends on the grower what your buds are going to look like. In general though, after examining a few live plants I have noticed that the slightly higher amount of shake and crumby quality of some pineapple express has lot to do with how the plant itself forms its buds. In other words, if you’re buying bulk, don’t expect 100% beautiful bud from this spindly sativa.

Smoke 8/10

Sweet, sweet, sweet, though if this strain is not cured properly it can be particularly harsh. When cured incorrectly, pineapple express has a strong ‘Christmas tree’ flavour that is absolutely abominable.

When dried and cured correctly, pineapple express leaves a lasting sweetness with pineapple tastes upfront, and a lingering floral mango finish.

Effect 10/10

This strain is strong, energetic, and creative. The rise is not scary or jarring like some strains, it is very sooth and mellow. I have never noticed dry mouth, dry eyes, or excessive munchies from this strain. An excellent choice for people who suffer from anxiety and depression and need daytime relief. Very non- drowsy, almost invigorating.

Expect to spend hours sketching, creating, singing, cooking, or whatever you love. I find this strain removes your worries without being too debilitating so you can simply enjoy your  day.

The effects aren’t the longest lasting, about 90 minutes, but it is so worth it.

As An Edible 9/10

As an edible this strain is more relaxing and its Indica side comes out a bit. The creativity is still very prominent, but in a more relaxing context where you want to stay in and create, not run around singing, if you know what I mean.

Overall 43/50

I highly recommend you seek out and purchase this strain. A beautiful addition to your pantry, this strain strips you of your woes and lifts you up.
